This newsletter is to inform you of changes made to prescribing rules by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the regulatory body for veterinary surgeons in the UK.

The RCVS has recently altered the ‘under care’ regulations for vets prescribing parasite treatment (treatment for worms, fleas and ticks) for patients. For more information on the changes please see the RCVS website.

They now classify anti-parasite treatment as antimicrobials, the same category as antibiotics, and have stipulated that veterinary surgeons can only prescribe parasite treatment following a physical examination of the patient.

Due to new legislation, the prescribing of flea and worm medication for your pet will now require a physical examination with a vet, before this medication can be dispensed.

To help our clients we are offering these consultations at a discounted fee or free of charge at the same time as a vaccination.
