Careers & Vacancies

Ribble Vets, Preston

RVN’s to join our team of 20 nurses.

Please send your CV and covering letter to Mrs Nicky Birch:  nicky@ribblevets.co.uk

We are an independent RCVS accredited hospital, in modern, purpose built premises. We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated RVN’s to join our team of 20 nurses. Facilities include ultrasonography, digital x-ray, endoscopy, hydrotherapy and K-laser. We are proud to cover our own out of hours emergency work, and to offer this service to several local practices.

Vacancy 1 is for a permanent week day and weekend work nurse. Full time ideally, although consideration will be given to part time hours. Our daytime nurses work a 40 hour week between 7.30am and 10pm on weekdays and currently do 1:7 weekends. The weekends are Saturday 12noon-8pm and Sunday 8am-8pm. There are 2 lieu days given the week after the weekend and 10hours extra pay for the Sunday.

Vacancy 2 is a temporary maternity contract of 12-13 months. Ideally this role would be fulltime and would mirror the above vacancy.

The permanent vacancy would be especially suited to an RVN with an interest in hydrotherapy and rehabilitation.

What makes our practice special:
  • Our large team is friendly and caring, with a nice balance between experience and newly qualified energy.
  • We’re proud to provide our own out of hours emergency cover, giving our vets the chance to retain their cases in-house and work them up to a higher level, and provide our patients and clients seamless care.
  • Our consultations are a minimum of 15 minutes, with sufficient breaks between blocks to catch up on call-backs, paperwork or grab a cuppa!
  • Our lovely new purpose-built practice is bright, airy and a pleasurable place to work.
  • We have a very varied medical and surgical caseload and excellent facilities including eight consulting rooms including one dedicated to bereavement, two operating theatres, separate dental, x-ray and diagnostic rooms, five wards, ultrasonography, digital x-ray, endoscopy, hydrotherapy and k-laser. We strive to provide the best and most current treatments.

Ribble Vets, Penwortham, Lancashire

Experienced Veterinary Surgeon (Job Share Part Time Position)

Please send your CV and covering letter to Mrs Nicky Birch:  nicky@ribblevets.co.uk

The Practice:
We are a long-established independent practice with a big team of 19 vets (ten small animal, five mixed and four large animal), 23 nurses and 13 receptionists. We are in the unique position of enjoying the facilities of a large purpose-built hospital whilst retaining the values, longstanding clients and feel of the local practice.
We believe in:
-treating our clients with kindness and consideration, offering the care we would want for our own animals,
-working in a busy, friendly atmosphere involving all the different practice teams,
– supporting newer members of the profession encouraging skill development,
-striving to provide the best and most current treatments for our patients.

The practice offers a very varied medical and surgical caseload with excellent facilities including seven consulting rooms and a dedicated bereavement room, two operating theatres, separate dental, x-ray and diagnostic rooms, five wards, ultrasonography, digital x-ray, endoscopy, hydrotherapy and k-laser. Our current focus for development is the care of pets with behavioural problems and the management of arthritis and post-surgical rehabilitation.

We’re proud to provide our own out of hours emergency cover, giving our vets the chance to retain their cases in-house and work them up to a higher level this also provides our patients and clients with seamless care. A core feature of our out of hours service is the active support provided by our senior vets and directors, all of which take an active part in the second on call rota.

The Role:
We are looking to expand the number of senior vets that participate on the back up rota. Our ideal candidate would be an experienced individual who is happy mentoring recently qualified vets whilst following their own cases and pursuing their own areas of interest. As a practice we actively support professional development having several certificate holders and 2 vets studying for certificates currently.

We are looking for an experienced and caring vet who enjoys the buzz of being part of a busy team. The position will include participation in the weekend second on call, 1 in 3 rota. This will involve consulting on a Saturday morning from 9am-1pm and then being available for advice and assistance if required by the small animal on call vet for the remainder of that weekend. During this second on call period the vet does not need to remain on the premises but must be accessible, within 10 miles or 20 minutes’ drive of the practice. There will be no first on call duties.

The days/ hours worked during the week are negotiable as this is a new position expanding the number of vets on our back up rota. We are open to suggestions in the development of this role.

The Package:
The salary would be discussed on an individual basis depending on experience and the hours worked. It would be based on the appropriate SPVS salary scale and would take into account any extra qualifications.
