Ribble Vets

Veterinary Care in the Preston Area

Situated in Penwortham, with branches in  Leyland and Wesham, we are one of the largest independent veterinary practices in the North West of England.

We are a busy mixed practice providing veterinary services to companion animals, farm animals and equines. We have surgeries in Penwortham, Wesham & Leyland.

Our practice has been established since the 1930’s and we have been the vets for generations of the region’s family pets and livestock. Over the years, our practice has grown from a one-man practice to our present-day team of fifteen veterinary surgeons, a dedicated team of veterinary nurses and our supportive and experienced admin staff.

We combine our vast experience and expert knowledge with modern, up-to-date ideas and techniques to bring you a comprehensive, professional and caring service at a fair price. We pride ourselves on providing our own out-of-hours service to our clients, so that your animal will always be seen by one of our vets at our surgery or on your farm/yard.

In December 2016 we were proud to open our branch new purpose built surgery on Liverpool Road in Penwortham.  These premises replaced our surgery on New Lane and provide us with extra space and the facilities we need to ensure our clients and their pets receive the very best service.  All operations and the emergency service are based here.  Routine consultations and collection or repeat prescriptions can be arranged at any of our four surgeries.

In June 2012 we changed our name to Ribble Vets when we became a limited company. Our dedicated team of veterinary surgeons, nurses and support staff remain unchanged.

RCVS Accredited -
In 2005, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons set up a new Practice Standards scheme. This is a voluntary scheme to accredit veterinary practices in the UK. Through setting standards and carrying out regular inspections, the scheme aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care.

To become accredited, practices volunteer for rigorous inspection every four years and will have met a range of minimum standards including hygiene, 24-hour emergency cover, staff training, certain types of equipment and cost estimation procedures. They may also be subject to spot checks between inspections.

Having been previously accredited at Core and General Practice level, our branches are currently in the process of being inspected to Core standard and the Penwortham surgery to Veterinary Hospital standard.
