Ordering and Collecting Repeat Medication

If your pet has been prescribed ongoing medication or is on a veterinary diet, please telephone the surgery in advance of your requirements.

You can place your order by telephone at Wesham between 0930-1300 or 1630-1800 Monday-Friday. Outside of these times, you are welcome to telephone our Penwortham branch to place your order and request that it is sent to Wesham for you to collect.

For your convenience, you can collect your order during Reception open times Monday-Friday between 09.00-13.00 and 16.00 to 18.00.

Medication should be ordered at least one working day ahead.

Prescription diets and other food should be ordered at least one working day ahead. Please note that most food is ordered directly from our wholesalers, and this order is placed on weekdays only at 4pm. Orders received after this time can only be processed the next working day, for collection the day after.

Our vets can only prescribe medication for animals under their care. The general policy of this practice is to re-assess an animal requiring repeat medication or prescriptions every 4 months, but this may vary with individual circumstances. The standard charge for a re-examination is £10.87. You can obtain repeat medication from us, or ask for a written prescription and obtain these medicines from another veterinary surgeon or a pharmacy. For further information, please refer to our Terms and Conditions of Business.

Q: Do you stock pet food?

A: We keep a limited amount of prescription diet food in stock, with most items available to order for the next day. We also stock some non-prescription pet food, and we are able to order a particular diet or brand for your pet by request. In the future, we hope to expand this availability to allow you to order pet food through this web site and at competitive prices – why not sign up for our newsletter to receive notification of when this service is available?

Q: Can you advise me of the best food to feed my pet?

A: We do not have a bias towards any particular brand of general pet food. We would always advise you to feed a well-known brand of good quality complete feed for your dog and cat. There are many different foods available nowadays, and selecting the appropriate one for the pet's age, lifestyle and size can be of benefit. For example, a good brand of puppy food is a great start in life, but if your puppy is a giant breed he will have a higher energy requirement than a smaller breed, so you should select a food that is formulated for his size. There are also foods available for different sizes of adult dogs. Similarly, kittens should always be fed kitten food, and adult cats can benefit from a diet appropriate to their age and lifestyle, such as a neutered adult male cat or a senior indoor cat.

Our nurse clinics are a great way to talk through the options for your pet, and are available for rabbits and other small furries as well as cats and dogs. These clinics are free of charge, by appointment.
